How to do Tulsi Vivah at home

Devotees often fast for the day and hold the wedding in the evening:

  1. Decorate the tulsi plant like a bride: clean the pot, draw a rangoli, add a small red cloth or sari, bangles and a mangalsutra if you have one.
  2. Place Vishnu beside her: a Shaligram, or a small image of Krishna.
  3. Light a diya and offer flowers, sweets and sugarcane.
  4. Tie the knot: join the two with a cotton thread, and circle the plant, chanting or singing.
  5. Sing aarti, such as Om Jai Jagdish Hare, and share prasad.
